  10. Hi Allison. I was going through the WFF Stillwater forum today and hadn't seen your name in awhile and decided to pay a visit to your blog. My heart and prayers go out to you and your family during an extremely tough time.

    This is a response to the comment above on weight/fat loss. I have been on a simple fitness and nutrition program by Kinetix, based out of Seattle for almost 15 months year now.

    After 16 weeks I had lost 40 lbs and gone from 30% to 20% body fat. After another 8 weeks I have lost and kept off a total of 50 lbs and fluctuate between 16% and 17% body fat.

    The basic fitness program that is so successful for reducing fat is 30 minutes a day, 6 days a week. You alternate days lifting dumbells that builds lean body mass that burns fat, with cardio. It is critical during the cardio workouts to stay within the fat burning (65% of max) heart range. It may seem like a joke because cardio at that level may have one barely breathing hard. But at a higher heart rate the body can't burn fat fast enough so it burns lean body mass; exactly the opposite of what you are trying to accomplish.

    The key to Kinetix nutrition is teaching clients how to create balanced home-cooked meals with 40% Protein, 40% Carbs, and 20% fat, that is critical to building lean body mass. There is an abbreviated form of calorie counting/reduction with eating balanced meals 6x daily. Eating balanced meals 6x daily keeps your appetite satisfied and virtually eliminates cravings. After reading this article I am left wondering when weight gain is going to check up to me and am left in ever greater risk of becoming even more “anorexic” than I am already accused of being. Seriously though, this blog says that if you get too little sleep you do not burn fat as quickly but if you get too much sleep you can gain weight, so maybe I should just stay with my current sleeping pattern and make sure I am still regulating my caloric intake.   15. This type of training I love. It serves all aspects of obtaining tight abs. It will get you winded serving as your cardio. It is full body including your core which will stimulate hormones to produce lean muscle growth. This will get you to drop weight quickly and develop an extremely strong core.

    One thing that I would recommend is adding weighted isolation exercises. I usually preaching the other way because I hate programs that focus on crunches. But this video is so far i the opposite directions I think that it is actually needed.

    As I said before that you will burn fat quickly and you will build an extremely strong functional core. Why not have the bulging six pack with it. Add weighted crunches on the stability ball and hanging leg raises with ankle weight and those abs will be bursting through our stomach.

    Congrats on week 13! You are right there, and it sounds like you got about the same results as I did for round one: down 20 pounds.

    I tried easing into running, stretching, and doing hip strengthening exercises, but my IT band issues did not go away. I would like to come back to running later, but I didn't want to risk any injuries before Insanity. My days of running have been put on hold. But, I lost another 20 lbs. during round two, and I am ready to shred that last bit of fat and get ripped. Insanity is perfect for this. I might rotate P90X/Insanity or go on a hybrid schedule afterwards.

    For you, I would recommend jumping right into Insanity! It will burn fat quickly and is the fastest route from point a to b. Plus, P90X gets really boring around day 150, and adding running extends your workouts up to 2 hours per day. Why do that, when you can fit Insanity into your schedule at 45 minutes a day? You will also stay motivated with a new program. Go for Insanity man, you won't regret it.

    There's a lot of positive feedback. A lot of people have said that they lost between 6 and 10 lbs and kept it off. Some people had lost up to 90 pounds. It seems kind of ridiculous and I don't know how it works, but we'll see how it goes for me!

  29. The rule of thumb I've always been told, and followed, in terms of ounces of water is one ounce per pound of body weight. There are a lot of differente 'ounce rules' out there, of course – I happen to be comfortable with this one.

    The exercise routine seems good – it's a mix of core and cardio, which is good.

    I don't know of a specific meal list you can go with, as it really depends on the types of food you do and don't like to eat. A great diet tool you might be interested in is fitday.com – you register for a free account and you can track a variety of different things on it – calorie intake, fat intake, where your calorie intake is coming from, calorie expenditure, exercise, etc. It even makes little charts for you, based on the data you've inputed, that show your weight loss, muscle gain, and various other things. It's really helpful.

  30. The more protein you eat the more the fat burning hormone glucagon is released. The more carbohydrate you eat the more the fat storage hormone insulin is released. Simple carbohydrates (sugar, flour, bread, cereal, pasta, potatoes, rice) triggers insulin which can store the calories you eat into fat.

    You will lose more body fat eating protein and fat (don't eat protein alone) than not eating AT ALL. To lose weight fast eat all you want but nothing but meat, eggs, healthy oils, mayo, butter and half an avocado a day (you'll need added potassium). Keep the calories high and the fat percentage high, at least 65% of calories. Adding in green vegetables & some cheese will continue weight loss but at a slower pace.

    Your body won't release fat stores if you lower calories below what it needs. It will slow your metabolism to compensate and store every spare ounce as fat. If you continue lowering your calories, it will continue lowering that set point, til you can survive off nothing and store fat on anything. The body will only release it's fat stores if it knows there is plenty of food.

    Simple carbs are addictive and can be disastrous to our health. The best way to break the addiction is NO carbs for 3 days. Make a huge batch of deviled eggs and eat one every time you want "something" have huge omelets for breakfast, with bacon, a lil onion, peppers, mushrooms & cheese. Pork chops for lunch. Get pork rinds and eat them with tuna salad. Steak for dinner. Make a huge sugar free cheese cake for dessert. Eat so much you won't feel deprived of anything. By the fourth day, your addiction will be gone and you can start making healthy choices.

    High insulin levels promote inflammation, weight gain, hunger and unbalance other hormones. Controlling your insulin level will balance out other hormones & allow human growth hormone (HGH) to be produced naturally so you will gain lean muscle even without exercise. Any exercise will greatly increase your muscle mass with high HGH levels.

    Once you get near your goal, you start adding 5 carbs every week til you gain weight, then you subtract 10 carbs. That would give you your personal carb level (everyone is different and it depends on how active you are.) As long as you remain <9 carbs per hour, you will maintain insulin control, and shouldn't gain weight. Many people gain weight on high carb, then switch to low carb to lose weight & then are shocked when they return to high carb that they gain weight. Many people can return to moderate carb levels but very few can really eat all they want of sugar and maintain weight or health.

    Dr.Atkins was a cardiologist, low carb was a health plan easier sold as a "diet" Read any of his books for easily understandable science. Lutz "Life without Bread" & Taubes "Good calorie, bad calorie" are excellent books that dispel all the nutrition myths.
