To do things the right way, you need to do them sensibly. Do that, and you’ll not only lose weight, but you’ll keep your health, too. Let’s take a look at some things that you can do so that your diet plan supports your health; more than that, though, it can help you with some quick weight loss at the same time.

Make sure your diet has plenty of variety. A diet that focuses on just a few foods is not only going to be boring, but it’s not particularly healthy for you, either. When you eat a diet that’s varied, you are doing things the right way, so that you’re not going to suffer health problems just because you’re trying to lose weight. Eat something from every food group, every day.

Make sure you eat breakfast every day. The breakfast you eat should be something you enjoy, but it should be healthy so that it fills you up and fuels you throughout your day. If you eat breakfast, you’re much less likely to overeat later. Having a good breakfast is going to help with quick weight loss, too, because you’re going to have the energy to make it through your day, and you’ll boost your metabolism at the same time; that boost is going to stick with you throughout the day and help you burn even more calories.

You can cut calories to some extent, but do so sensibly. If you cut your calories too much, your metabolism is going to slow way down, which is actually going to be detrimental to quick weight loss in the long run. Get more fiber in your diet. The fiber you get should come from food-based sources like vegetables, beans, whole grain cereals, fruits, and legumes.

Say no to diet pills. Diet pills are potentially dangerous, and will also slow your metabolism down by cutting your appetite, which is going to have you cutting calories drastically; that is going to slow your metabolism down markedly, which is going to make it much harder for you to lose weight. Again, as with the earlier point about cutting calories, you certainly will lose weight at first if you do cut your calories to a great extent, but in the long run, this is only going to hurt you, not help you. Moreover, diet pills can also be damaging to your health.

Finally, exercise. Shoot for getting at least 20 minutes of exercise three times a week, and exercise vigorously. This boosts your metabolism and builds muscle mass, too. Both of these things are good for quick weight loss that’s also healthy.

There’s no magic diet plan out there that’s going to help you with quick weight loss unless you make other changes besides. With the right knowledge, though, you can lose weight quickly and be healthy at the same time if you do things properly and don’t try fad diets. Make sure the diet plan you follow is healthy, and remember that health is first and foremost when it comes to losing weight. Your diet plan should be focused on health in addition to quick weight loss, so that you can be healthy and fit for a lifetime.

  11. well usually people have a set point…. consistency is the key…. let's say your set poing is 135lbs You usually could lose 5-10lbs then go back to 135lbs in a couple of weeks, then gain 5-10lbs and then go back to 135lbs in a couple of weeks… If you excersie consistently for a long period of time, months-years…. then your set point itself will change… to let's say 110…

  14. Hey Morkai – a blast from the past. Just came across your comment on Cyn's blog and thought I'd drop you a line. In the UK, WW has two plans – count and core, or something like that – I haven't been for over a year, but basically core gives you unlimited amounts of wholesome foods (so it kind of does teach you about nutrition, or at least healthy eating) and you only use your points for treats that aren't included in the list (21 points a week total). Also, the newest thing is the Discover plan which teaches you about eating 'filling foods', ie. with low energy density and high nutrient density. So while they don't use the lingo, the modern WW does teach about healthy eating. Is it different in the States?

  16. Hi Megamas. I believe that all diets achieve the same results in the long-term, if the dieter sticks with the program long enough. They all have to work by the same mechanism: reducing insulin (or more accurately, controlling the ratio of insulin to other hormones, like glucagon), because we know in great detail how insulin and glucose work together to store fat; or conversely, how reducing insulin and glucose allow stored fat to be released and used for energy. “Standard” fat-loss programs, like WW, achieve this by cutting intake across all macronutrients, thus creating a caloric deficit with all of the attendant unpleasantness (constant hunger, metabolic slowdown, etc.) I guess the “upside” of these programs is that they feed some puritanical masochistic urge: no good comes without sacrifice and suffering :-) WW and their ilk provide plenty of physical, mental, and financial suffering.

    Of course, if you get off the low-insulinemic program, be it Atkins or WW, and return to eating foods that crank up your insulin, the fat will return. The key is to keep that insulin under control for the long-term, while maintaining a satisfying diet. There's another lifestyle angle here as well, also related to hormones: reducing stress. Insulin comes from the parasympathetic endocrine system, and tends to depress stress hormones. That's why comfort foods are almost always high-carb: they crank up your insulin, drive down stress hormones like cortisol, and make you feel better. But it's only a temporary fix, and comes at a high price. Any non-dietary measures to manage stress will (I believe) help you to maintain a low-insulinemic diet.

    My own key for success has been thinking of diet in terms of the effect on insulin, that too much insulin is bad whether or not I'm fat. Obesity is simply the most visible side-effect of poor insulin control. Insulin is one of the most powerful and ancient metabolic hormones, controlling not just glucose metabolism, but also other processes like growth, cell differentiation, and cell division. Insulin receptor structure is remarkably consistent across species. Even the “lowly” hagfish has insulin receptors that are very similar to humans' – and I'm pretty sure the hagfish doesn't need it for controlling blood sugar due to ingestion of carbohydrates :-)

    Anyway, the insulin angle works for me, but I'm a science nerd, so it may not be for everybody.

Older and young people can do, the kids can do too… It´s an exercise to all the family. In my view, people need a healthy diet too, only few exercise isn´t enought to improve the weight.

    No, you don’t have to fill up like a tub, but ensure that you drink 8 to 10 glasses of water every day. Don’t substitute for juice. Your body should always be hydrated.
