    This is an article I got from the Gym Boss website (which we have). It has been talked a lot about lately but I must admit the results are awesome. I have gained strength and have increased my endurance.

    Tabata is the name of a Japanese researcher who discovered a way to increase both anaerobic and aerobic pathways at the same time. It's an excellent training program that seems to fit across all training disciplines for athletes looking to increase their VO2max and lose fat quickly.

    What is it? It's simple: after warming up, take one exercise and perform it in the following manner:
    For twenty seconds, do as many reps as possible, or run, bike as hard as you can
    Rest for ten seconds
    Repeat seven more times!
    Eight sets of “as many reps as you can get done,” followed with a brief ten second rest— simple and effective. This isn't “eight sets of eight,” although the goal of doing eight reps in each of the twenty second clusters is about right. Instead it's “as many reps as I can get in” during the twenty seconds, followed by ten seconds rest. If running, biking, or rowing, go as hard as you can.

    The best exercise options for the Tabata method are exercises that use a large number of muscles such as, squats, front squats, dead lifts, thrusters, sprints, stationary bike, rowing machine,

    Use the “lowest rep number” of any of the eight sets as your measurement to compare workout to workout. If you go too heavy, that last set may be two. If you go too light, you might get around 15 reps or more.

    And by the way, ten seconds is not getting a drink, looking in the mirror, talking to the cute girl on the bike, looking at the clock, walking back to the bar, chalking up, adjusting the belt, talking to a friend, then doing the next set. Ten second is ten seconds! No cheating!

    Why should you do this workout? The Tabata program might be the single best “fat burning workout” that I know, not to mention the increase in VO2max. It might only be four minutes, but you seem to keep sweating and breathing hard for a long time afterwards. Tabata truly teaches a person the mental focus needed to push and to help reach their athletic goals.

    Using a GYMBOSS makes timing Tabata intervals easy, simply set timer to a work interval of 20 seconds followed by rest interval of 10 seconds alarming with your choice of beep, vibrate or both! Timer continues these intervals until you stop!! Or drop!!!!

    Learn from the experts what is good and bad. LOW FAT diets are not healthy and very destructive to the body. They are also part of a starvation diet that damages your body and is NOT the way to diet in a healthy way.

    Here I am, all decrepid from waking up at 5am and training people for 2 days straight all over God's country…and you are still such a motivation.

    Here's something I taped to my mirror the other day, and I think it applies across the board – to anyone who feels that the spandex is less than flattering. Granted, I don't know what it's like to be your weight (or your height for that matter.), but everyone is unhappy with their body. Here is my motivation. Maybe it can be yours too.

    ******DAILY MOTIVATION******

    Passion – This is wear it all starts. Set your goals from your heart. Forget about what the statistics say and any of your past failures. What does your dream body look like? How bad do you want it? Why do you want it so bad? How is your life going to change once you achieve it? Think of how much passion will come into your life once you are lean, healthy and sexy in your own mind when you look in a mirror.

    Growth – Achieving your goal does not have to happen over night. Small changes add up very quickly. A great strategy is to simply be better today then you were yesterday and better tomorrow than you are today. After 6 months you will be blown away with the improvements that you’ve made.

    Comfort Zone – In order to experience this daily growth there are times when you will have to step outside of your comfort zone. You will have to increase the intensity of your workouts, prepare food in advance, write down your goals, spend some time visualizing, pass on the dessert, and other things that have not become a habit for you just yet. Accept discomfort and expect it. It’s an opportunity for you to become better than you are today.

    Gratitude – It’s easy to be grateful when things are going well, but I find the practice of being grateful for who you are today and for the so called failures and challenges of your past is much more powerful. Each challenge or failure provides you with the opportunity to grow and improve yourself. If you want to be happy in your body start today! Love yourself unconditionally. Be grateful for all your past experiences because they have contributed to the lean, sexy and healthy person you will become.

    Become – This could very well be the most powerful word in your vocabulary when you use it properly. For example; “I have BECOME UNSTOPPABLE!” “I have become Mary, the lean healthy and sexy woman who loves healthy foods and living the active lifestyle.”
    When you ‘become’ something or someone it is no longer a hope or dream. It’s a part of who you are. You now hold these beliefs and attitudes that nothing will get in your way.

    I knew that I will become ‘Unstoppable’ when the alarm clock will go off at 5:00am so I can go for my morning walk, and it will no longer be about fat loss. I will be doing it because I love it.
    It will provide me with an opportunity to clear my head, plan out my day, enjoy the sounds of the birds chirping, listen to an educational audio on my Mp3 player, and more than anything it will energize me first thing in the morning when I would typically be tired.

    Fun – Research shows that the people who choose activities that they enjoy are more likely to stick to their programs for the long term. You may read a book that lays out the best fat burning workout routine and nutrition program, but if you don’t enjoy it chances are you will not stick with it.
    There are so many different workout programs on the market. Experiment with them and find the ones that fit best with your lifestyle and the ones that you enjoy the most. Don’t just stick with one. You need variety and variety will keep the enjoyment of activity at a high level.

    Role Model – You need new references, which demonstrate that achieving your dream body will happen. Seek out that 5% of the population and model their behaviors and actions. If someone tells you that your fat loss goals are unrealistic just show them a picture of your role models.

  14. Wow, I feel like a bad person, I only average 6 hours, usually I get 5. After reading this article I am left wondering when weight gain is going to check up to me and am left in ever greater risk of becoming even more “anorexic” than I am already accused of being. Seriously though, this blog says that if you get too little sleep you do not burn fat as quickly but if you get too much sleep you can gain weight, so maybe I should just stay with my current sleeping pattern and make sure I am still regulating my caloric intake. Sleeping and eating and I are not friends, I found out from our homework assignment I really do not eat enough and now I am being told I do not sleep enough. Hmm, oh the many changes I need to make. On the plus side I am drinking more water than ever before! I used to have one glass a week back in high school (two years ago)and now I drink roughly 3-4 a day:D

  16. The simple statistic for any type of dietary pill is:

    30% actually absorbed into the body. 70% is usually discarded as waste.

    That is why the pills are so 'strong', they contain huge amounts of a specific chemical, so that 30% of that chemical can actually make an effect on the body.

    The problem with many of these pills is that they are not tested by the FDA and are not considered wholey safe to use. I've used many, and none work.

    Pills such as Leptoprin, Leptopril, Thyrin ATC, ect, all have good chemicals in them; under clinical trials, they work great; but under clinical trials they are not administered as pills, but as a liquid, or injection shot. THus making 100% of their content absorbed.

    If you really want to loose weight, do some good eating, some good excersie. If you are on medication that makes you gain weight (LIKE MINE: PROZAC), then talk to your doctor about other medication options. If you are mobridly obese, ie your BMI (body mas index) is more than 45-80, then most doctors reccomend some sort of bariatric proceedure, in which your stomach is manipulated to only absorb 1000-1500 calories a day.

    However, that is a last step, and should be considered as most drastic to loose weight.

    Diet pills, do not work. In fact, the vast majority of them say to follow up with some sort of excersie and additional eating. Some pillls would have you skip meals, and replace it with a dietary suppliment. This is never reccomended because the body needs 3-6 small meals a day. We neeed the continued nutrition and energy that comes from our food.

    Taking suppliments, diet pills, ect, isn't a good way to obtain this type of nutrition.

    Again, looking at the amount of pill that is REMOVED from the body, you can easily see that they are ineffective.

    Liquid suppliments, ect, are way more effective, with a graded curve of 80% to 92% effectiveness. The reason for this is that it is easilly digestable by the body. Liquid suppliments, however, are usualy more expensive, and are often regulated by the FDA because of their effectiveness.

  17. you should have a more filling lunch with a lean protein so you won't binge for dinner … breakfest should be the biggest meal of the day so have most of your carbs in the morning , also have a protein like boiled eggs cause they keep you full, for dinner keep it simple with a protein and veggies … snack on fruit, seeds and nuts
